More Than a Month In

I read about it a lot in the past, but always felt I lacked the willpower or desire to actually do it.
The desire to feel like a "normal" person kind of weighed on me heavily, and I thought of myself instead of them, the animals.
After 8 or so years of being a vegetarian and 3 years of being a pescatarian, I am happy to announce my switch to veganism.
Wait, happy may not be the right sentiment.
Reluctant, maybe.
Most people don't understand, can't even begin to,
but it isn't really important what people think about me...it's all about what I think about me.
And I think I'm living the way I've always wanted to live, and that makes me happier than anyone could imagine!

Transitioning has been a fun process. My first thought was to get back into Macrobiotics (had a short experiment with it about 6 or 7 years ago),
but the daily miso soup was never gonna happen and giving up nightshades didn't make too much sense to me. I still like to include umeboshi in some meals, and my version of kimpira kicks ass! Still garnishing each meal with gomaiso and still a big fan of sesame oil, for sure.

The first thought was no oil as to maximize weight loss (though this was never the main goal behind the diet switch) and much of my research was geared in such a way. Water sautéing, baking instead of frying, and no oil at all. For one thing, I ended up eating so much but never really feeling satiated. Like when you eat a salad and are hungry one hour later. I was eating lots of brown rice and veggies so it felt good to eat a lot and not have to limit my portions. That never ever works for me.

Through lots of research and videos on YouTube, I am at the moment using coconut oil for all cooking and even taking a tablespoon of it as a supplement. After a month of little to no oil, I noticed my skin feeling a little dry and tight. NOT the kind of things you should feel in the heart of summer in Hawaii. So oils are back in. Yay!

I am now a groupie of Eco Vegan Gal, The Vegan Zombie, Save the Kales, Jason Wrobel & The Edgy Veg. There is so much out there to learn and see.
This is proving to be quite the journey!

Friday, 5-30

Today (Saturday)

Trying to stay motivated without the usual obsession. Cleaning up the eating, cutting back on the drinking...not easy! I bought a Nutribullet from Amazon, so soon it will be some shakes and smoothies for me :)

"Boombox" by Kairo Kingdom is my new workout jam!

Okay! The tofu scramble was yummy, as was the quinoa and kale salad! I found that miso dressing with wasabi & ginger...my favorite!

What a mish-mash meal...the best kind! Contemplating my meals for the nest few days. Oh, and the dinner tomorrow night is a seafood buffet. Veganism will need to be put off for that dinner. Don't want to seem like an uptight hippie, haha. Life without eggs & cheese...can I do it? We shall see!

Day 2. Not sure how things will go from here on in, since I had the past two days off, and now it's back to work. Tomorrow we have a goodbye dinner for Gerry, so I'll be heading to that right after getting off work at 7. I know this isn't a sad occasion, but I'm really going to miss him being my boss.

So I hit Down To Earth & Whole Foods today. Got a bunch of potatoes, tofu, whole wheat pasta...all that good stuff. Planning on attempting a tofu scramble for lunch. I have quinoa in the rice cooker, planning on having that with a kale salad. I learned how much a love mint in my water! I got a new kickass glass water bottle from Whole Foods ($28.99) and I added lemon, cucumber slices, ginger juice and mint to my water. Yum!

I started a new book on my Kindle this morning. "The Hypnotist's Love Story" by Liane Moriarty. I read her book "The Husband's Secret" about a month ago and I really loved it! This book seems equally compelling, so that's something to look forward to while on the elliptical.

Updated my playlists a little. Still love some of the old workout standards. To this day, my list can pretty much stay at:

1. Come With Me - Puff Daddy w/Jimmy Page
2. Headsprung - LL Cool J
3. Vibrate - Petey Pablo
4. On The Floor - J. Lo
5. Some Mudvayne stuff
6. Some Disturbed stuff

And some new jams:

7. La La La - Naughty Boy ft. Sam Smith (love him!)
8. Talk Dirty - Jason Derulo
9. Blurred Lines - Robin Thicke (can't get enough of it, still)
10. Happy - Pharell Williams ( you knew that was coming!)

Of course, my workout playlist is a lot longer than this, but these are definitely the top blood-pumpers. Nothing at all like some tunes to get you moving.

Well, time to start cooking. Let's see how this goes!

Hello Again

Well, it's 2014! I've pretty much neglected this journal for so long! Anyway, today I jumped on the elliptical for the first time in YEARS. Probably neglected that longer than I did Livejournal. No excuses, just that's how it's been. For the past few years, I've been pretty much eaten whatever I've felt like, I've lounged around in bed & allowed myself to be a lazy geck, and I've partied like a rock star daily. A little bit of fluff has resulted & I think it's added to my laziness & gluttony.

The problem with me is that I can easily become obsessed with things, diet & exercise (even though I hate it with a passion) included. I will need to meditate on the idea of taking small steps & not going overboard. After years of unlimited unhealthy food choices (enter pizza, pounds of pasta topped with handfuls of cheese, Taco Bell, Filet 'o Fish sandwiches, bags of chips, Cheetos, Reese's Mini Cups...you get the idea), goodness ANY kind of change, any sense of restraint could only be a good thing!

I understand that the pounds came on very slowly and slyly & that they will come off in the same style. So this is just a long haul that I will need to make one step at a time. Patience & perseverance, I need you both right now.

Saturday @ the sea :)

At Hookipa today. Light breeze and clear skies!
I'm sitting under a tree playing Scramble WF.
So beautiful here!

Tonight is Wynne's wedding, should be nice!

"Fly" by Celine Dion

Fly, fly little wing
Fly beyond imagining
The softest cloud, the whitest dove
Upon the wind of heaven's love
Past the planets and the stars
Leave this lonely world of ours
Escape the sorrow and the pain
And fly again

Fly, fly precious one
Your endless journey has begun
Take your gentle happiness
Far too beautiful for this
Cross over to the other shore
There is peace forevermore
But hold this mem'ry bittersweet
[ From: http://www.elyrics.net/read/c/celine-dion-lyrics/fly-lyrics.html]
Until we meet

Fly, fly do not fear
Don't waste a breath, don't shed a tear
Your heart is pure, your soul is free
Be on your way, don't wait for me
Above the universe you'll climb
On beyond the hands of time
The moon will rise, the sun will set
But I won't forget

Fly, fly little wing
Fly where only angels sing
Fly away, the time is right
Go now, find the light

Chose this song thinking about the victims of the Aurora, CO theater shooting & Sally Ride. This is one of the songs that comforted me when Daphne died. My heart goes out to all the victims & their loved ones.

The end of my vacation

I see I haven't posted in over a week!
Had a 5 day vacation and tomorrow it's back to work.
I had a nice time these past 5 days, though!

On Thursday (the start of the vacation) we went to Sam Sato's for breakfast & then went to Home Depot for something to fix the toilet with. I don't really remember what we did after that. Hmm...oh yeah, we went to Costco (Jeff bought his mom a laptop I bought bluetooth headphones) and we saw an awesome sectional. So on Thursday late afternoon, Jeff decided that we should clean up his place so we could get that couch in.

It took a lot of work, cleaning everything out of the living room, taking his old couch and chair to the garbage dump, and 3 trips to and from Costco. Not to mention the getting into the elevator, getting it in the door, and then finding just the right configuration for his space.

But in the end, it was so worth it! It is so beautiful and comfy!

The rest of the weekend went by quickly. Jeff went fishing off the kayak on Sat., so I went home, Scrambled W/Friends all morning (still madly obsessed) & then I went shopping. I searched for storage solution stuff at Walmart, Kmart, Lowes...tiring but I think I made some good choices.

I finished watching my very first Korean Drama..."My Lovely Sam-Soon"...it was good! It's not anything I'd ever think I'd like to watch, but the eye-candy factor kinda makes it more fun! Haha. So now I'm watching "Autumn In My Heart", which Gene-Rey highly recommended. So far, not impressed with the story, but one of the actors is cute! Haha, I pin all of them on Pinterest, I'm stalkerish like that!

Dreading going to work tomorrow, I'm sure lots of hell has broken loose while I've been gone. Oh well. I actually have a load of paperwork to do, so my plan is to stay out of the dept. all day. Next week is inventory, so I'm out real soon.

Time to look for the lyrics for the day!

So the weekend comes to an end.
I had a good one, spent time with Jeff.
On Saturday we did a little shopping after breakfast @ Maui Tacos.
Baja fish bowl was great! :)

So yeah, I ended up splurging on these awesome headphones. Skullcandy "Aviators"...these are awesome! Sooo comfy & they sound so crisp.

Worked the last shift tonight.
Nothing exciting to report, which I count as a blessing!
It's like they say, no news is good news!

It's been said and done
Every beautiful thought's been already sung
And I guess right now here's another one
So your melody will play on and on, with the best of 'em
You are beautiful, like a dream come alive, incredible
A sinful, miracle, lyrical
You've saved my life again
And I want you to know baby

I, I love you like a love song, baby
I, I love you like a love song, baby
I, I love you like a love song, baby

And I keep hitting re-peat-peat-peat-peat-peat-peat

I, I love you like a love song, baby
I, I love you like a love song, baby
I, I love you like a love song, baby

And I keep hitting re-peat-peat-peat-peat-peat-peat

Constantly, boy you played through my mind like a symphony
There's no way to describe what you do to me
You just do to me, what you do
And it feels like I've been rescued
I've been set free
I am hypnotized by your destiny
You are magical, lyrical, beautiful
You are... And I want you to know baby

I, I love you like a love song, baby
I, I love you like a love song, baby
I, I love you like a love song, baby

And I keep hitting re-peat-peat-peat-peat-peat-peat

I, I love you like a (love song baby) love song, baby
I, I love you like a (love song baby) love song, baby
I, I love you (I love you, I love you) like a love song, baby

And I keep hitting re-peat-peat-peat-peat-peat-peat (like a love song)

No one compares
You stand alone, to every record I own
Music to my heart that's what you are
A song that goes on and on

I, I love you like a love song, baby
I, I love you like a love song, baby
I, I love you like a love song, baby

And I keep hitting re-peat-peat-peat-peat-peat-peat

I, I love you like a love song, baby
I, I love you like a love song, baby
I, I love you like a love song, baby

I love you...like a love song...

Thanks to Michaela, CJ, Cecilia, Cassandra Phillips, Sierra, Shawn, Rizz for correcting these lyrics.
